I wanted to touch base with you about the Central PA Modified Softball League Tournament the weekend of Aug. 19-20. According to your posting on the message board, Ground Zero and LHB are interested in the tournament. Thats great to hear. Which team do you represent?
The tournament will be held on the 2 main fields at the Lower Allen Community Park on Lisburn Road in Mechanicsburg. No alcohol allowed in the park.
The double-elimination tournament will be a ten man tournament (with option of using 1 Extra H and 1 DH). Ten man pitching rules apply and will be enforced (same pitching rule as used by CPMSL).
Entry fee is $180. Trophies will be awarded to First, second, and third places. Trophies will be awarded to Tournament MVP and Most Valuable pitcher sponsored by Crown Trophy of Camp Hill. First place team also gets $200.
ASA Umpires will be used.
The drawing for the tournament is planned on or before Wednesday, Aug. 16th.
The CPMSL does not allow most composite, multi-wall, and single-wall bats that perform like a mulit-wall bat (such at the White Steel). If we get a number of teams from outside the league, we may reconsider that bat rule, but as of now we are going with the CPMSL bat rules. A list of legal bats is on our website.
Saturday games will probably start at 8 a.m. with the last possible game scheduled for 6 p.m.
Three pickup players are allowed. Any more than that have to be approved by the Tournament Director and CPMSL President.
For players with kids, the Lower Allen Community Park has things to do there besides softball. There is a fun fort playground for kids and the Yellow Breeches Creek is within 300 yards of the fields to fish or just relax between games.
The majority of teams in the tournament will probably be CPMSL teams but its open to all leagues. On the message board it was mentioned about 10 teams, but we do not know how many teams will be there at this time. We are hoping for at least 8. I just wanted to make that note that the Lamp Post will be there and probably Eagle Hotel but of the other teams planning to attend the level of play drops off a bit.
I believe you also expressed interest in our Fall League this year. We will probably be having an organizational meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at around 9 p.m. at Creekview field pavilion....immediately following playoff games there that night. It is not mandatory that each team attend but we will be deciding things like how voting on how many games the season will consist of, etc. I expect the season to start the week before Labor day weekend and goes to the end of October. It will be weekday evenings and we can try to make it that your team plays doubleheaders as much as possible so travel is only once a week...if that works best.
